PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Syeda Fahliza Begum is a Professor of the Department of Geological Sciences and Director of the Students Counselling and Guidance Center at Jahangirnagar University. Dr. Begum started her professional career as a lecturer of Geological Sciences at the same department of Jahangirnagar University in 1994. She was appointed as Chairperson of the Department of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University and served as the head of the department for 3 years from Dec. 2018 to Dec. 2021. Dr. Begum has obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. Degrees in Geology from Dhaka University of Bangladesh. She has received the Monbusho Scholarship awarded by Japanese Ministry of Education, Sports, Cultural and Science under the Government of Japan in 1997. She has achieved her PhD Degree in Hydrogeology from Nagoya University, Japan in 2003. As a visiting research fellow, Dr. Begum has conducted her research work between 2010 and 2015 at University of East London (UEL), UK.

 

 Her research is concentrated on: 

  • Hydrology and hydrogeology (hydraulics, aquifer performance tests, groundwater and surface water interaction, groundwater modeling and management).
  • Environment and water resource management (rainfall, evapotranspiration, wetlands and rivers, coastal zone, land cover changes, mangrove forests and remote sensing).
